Passive Acoustic Monitoring of Frog Diversity

We use Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) to record frog diversity in frog diversity hotspots. Please check in regularly to see new photos and findings!! These projects take places in remote places and the team travels long distances to set up recorders and download data.
Feel free to contact the
African Amphibian Conservation Research Group if you would like to contribute to running expenses!

Why use Passive Acoustic Monitoring for species surveys?

Usually, frog diversity surveys are conducted in a limited time frame, are in most cases extremely labour-intensive and even when surveyors and researchers plan their surveys in the peak breeding season for frogs and toads, there will always be species that are not detected due to explosive breeding behaviour or atmospheric variables that were not optimum for breeding.
